who we are Civil Data Systems was incorporated in 2003, evolving from a set of research projects undertaken at Northwestern University's Infrastructure Technology Institute (ITI). Professor Charles Dowding's Autonomous Crack Monitoring (ACM) project seeks to monitor the effects of long-term environmental factors and ground vibration on cracks in civil structures. David Kosnik and Mat Kotowsky, founders of Civil Data Systems and research engineers for ITI, have worked closely on the ACM project. In their work, they developed a practical and adaptable set of tools for collecting and displaying data from remote monitoring systems via a dedicated web site customized for the client. This technology has subsequently been deployed for clients in numerous locations across the country, and researchers have used Civil Data Systems tools to facilitate the analysis of trends in a variety of remote monitoring scenarios. advisory board Craig M.
